Black Spot Improvements Essential to Control Road Accidents: Surjeet Singh Rathore

Kullu, August 31, 2026: The District Road Safety Committee, Kullu, held a meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate Surjeet Kumar Rathore to review measures for controlling road accidents and strengthening road safety across the district.

Rathore directed all concerned officials to take road safety measures on priority and implement effective suggestions. Keeping in view the district’s hilly terrain, he stressed the installation of strong crash barriers at sharp bends and locations with deep ravines. He also directed officials to identify accident-prone locations and ensure necessary improvement works at these black spots, along with warning signs, reflectors and proper road indicators.

To minimise accidents during winter due to fog and snowfall, the ADM emphasised installing adequate reflectors on roads and adopting anti-skid technology at vulnerable locations.

He also directed officials to accelerate data entry on the IRAD/e-IRAD portal to facilitate accurate analysis of road accidents and ensure timely completion of technical audits following accidents.

The meeting also discussed identification of accident-prone locations, strict enforcement of traffic rules, road safety awareness campaigns and expediting road improvement works. Officials informed the committee that challans and legal action are being taken against violations including driving without helmets or seat belts, overspeeding and wrong-side driving.

Special awareness programmes for schoolchildren and the general public were also discussed. The committee further emphasised regular inspection of school buses, passenger vehicles and heavy vehicles to check fitness certificates, permits, overloading and pollution compliance.
