Predicts Victory in By-Elections, Criticizes Congress

Shimla, June 24, 2024 – Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, in a press statement from Shimla, expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is receiving full support and blessings from the people of Himachal Pradesh. He asserted that the BJP will win all the upcoming by-elections in the state. Thakur claimed that the people have rejected the Congress party, citing their poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections where they lost 61 out of 68 seats.

Thakur criticized the current government, stating that it has lost its popularity unusually quickly and has failed on all fronts. He accused the government of betraying farmers, youth, and orchardists, and halting the state’s development during its one-and-a-half-year tenure. He highlighted issues such as the neglect of public welfare issues, disrespect towards elected representatives, and governance driven by a dictatorial and vengeful attitude. Thakur also mentioned the closure of previously established institutions instead of opening new ones, which he said has never been seen before in the state’s history.

Jairam Thakur expressed gratitude to the central leadership for reducing the GST rate on cartons, stating that this decision will bring significant relief to the orchardists.

He reiterated that the BJP will win all the assembly by-elections this time. According to Thakur, the people of the state are fed up with the current government’s actions and are ready to teach it a lesson. He emphasized that the government should focus on development, such as opening hospitals and schools and building roads and bridges. However, he criticized the government for not even being able to clear debris from roads during its tenure and for failing to provide relief to disaster victims.

Thakur also criticized the Congress government for its dictatorial tendencies, recalling the imposition of the Emergency, which he described as a dark chapter in the country’s history. He urged people to remember the suffering endured during that period as its anniversary approaches.
