Mandi, May 13: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s manifesto for the Mandi Municipal Corporation elections presents a comprehensive roadmap for the city’s holistic development, cultural preservation and modern urban infrastructure.
Appealing to voters across all 14 wards to support BJP candidates, Jai Ram Thakur said the party’s “Sankalp Patra” was not merely an election document but a vision aimed at integrating development, women’s safety, youth empowerment, tourism and civic amenities.
Highlighting key promises in the manifesto, the BJP leader said the party has prioritised women’s safety through installation of AI-powered high-resolution CCTV cameras in markets, bus stands and sensitive areas. He added that smart traffic management and integrated traffic systems have been proposed to address traffic congestion in the city.
The manifesto also promises establishment of “Swachhta and Samman Kendras,” pink toilets, sanitary vending machines and QR-based monitoring systems to improve public facilities for women.
For disaster preparedness, BJP has proposed an early warning system and mobile alert service, particularly for vulnerable areas such as Tarna Hill and Paddal Ground during the monsoon season.
Jai Ram Thakur said the party’s “Swachh Chhoti Kashi – Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” would focus on door-to-door waste collection, GPS-enabled garbage vehicles and composting units to improve sanitation in the city.
For youth welfare and employment generation, the manifesto includes free high-speed Wi-Fi zones, modern libraries and annual skill development fairs to encourage self-employment opportunities.
The BJP leader also announced initiatives for senior citizens and differently-abled residents under the proposed “Varisht Samman Seva,” which would provide free pick-up and drop facilities along with 24×7 health consultation services.
Emphasising Mandi’s rich cultural heritage, Jai Ram Thakur said BJP plans to launch the “Mandi 500 Years Gaurav Campaign” to preserve the city’s historical legacy through heritage walks and cultural programmes aimed at boosting tourism.
The manifesto also includes promises related to embankment work along Sakodi Khad, construction of new roads, multi-level parking facilities and introduction of the “SevaSetu” digital platform for domestic services.
He further stated that BJP is committed to making Mandi a “drug-free and chitta-free city” to ensure a secure future for the younger generation.
Jai Ram Thakur expressed confidence that BJP’s governance vision at the Centre and its proposed leadership in the Municipal Corporation would accelerate development and transform Mandi into a model civic body not only for Himachal Pradesh but for the entire country.
