BJP Hits Back at Congress Over Gulf Remarks, Defends India’s Foreign Policy Under Modi Govt

Shimla: BJP chief spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal launched a sharp counterattack on Congress minister Jagat Singh Negi over his remarks on the Gulf situation, accusing the Congress of making “baseless statements” on India’s foreign policy.
Jamwal said it has become a pattern for Congress leaders to blame the Central government for every global development, ignoring facts and ground realities. He emphasized that tensions in the Gulf region impact the entire world, but under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has significantly strengthened its foreign policy and energy security.
Highlighting India’s strategic approach, Jamwal noted that despite importing over 80% of its crude oil, the country has successfully diversified its supply sources, including Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. “In 2022–23, India saved billions by purchasing discounted oil from Russia. This is a success of foreign policy, not a failure,” he asserted.
On LPG access, he pointed out that over 9 crore households have benefited from gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, with continued subsidies providing relief to the common people. “Where LPG connections were once a dream during Congress rule, today gas is a reality in poor households,” he said.
Reacting to Negi’s remarks involving the United States and former President Donald Trump, Jamwal said such comments reflect Congress’s outdated mindset rather than India’s diplomatic stance. “Congress still operates on ‘what will the world say,’ while the Modi government focuses on ‘what India decides,’” he remarked.
Jamwal further highlighted key achievements of India’s foreign policy, including the successful G20 presidency, India’s decisive role in global crises, and a balanced energy supply strategy. He said these developments underscore a stronger and more self-reliant India on the global stage.
Criticizing Congress’s past record, he alleged that the party lacked clarity in both energy security and foreign policy during its tenure. “Now that India has grown stronger, Congress seems uncomfortable with the progress,” he added.
Concluding his statement, Jamwal said India is no longer dependent on others but is emerging as a global power, with nations willing to stand alongside it. He urged Congress to stop spreading “misinformation” and acknowledge the country’s strengthened position.
