Bilaspur, Mar 03
Four panchayats in Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, have devised strategies to combat drug trafficking and addiction. While three panchayats have opted for social boycott and denial of government benefits, one has chosen a rehabilitation approach.

Patta Panchayat has decided to rehabilitate drug addicts instead of isolating them. The Gram Sabha resolved to provide medical aid, counseling, and employment opportunities to help them reintegrate into society. Panchayat Pradhan Ravi Pal Singh emphasized that timely support and guidance can help addicts rebuild their lives.

On the other hand, Barthin Panchayat has taken a strict stance. Pradhan Kuldeep Dhiman announced that anyone caught with chitta (synthetic drugs) will be denied government schemes like BPL ration, IRDP benefits, and MGNREGA jobs. A door-to-door awareness campaign will also be launched soon.

Similarly, Oyal and Soldha Panchayats have decided to enforce social ostracization for those involved in drug activities. Pradhan Dinesh Kumar (Oyal) and Pradhan Sushma Sharma (Soldha) declared that drug offenders and their families will be denied all panchayat facilities.
