Bharatiya Janata Party Ridicules Employee Demands, Congress Alleges

2 min read

In a recent statement, the Congress party accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of mocking the demands of government employees, suggesting that they should contest elections if they seek benefits.

According to Aashish Butail, the Chief Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, and Deputy Chief Whip Keval Singh Pathania, the Congress government is the only one that truly prioritizes the welfare of government employees.

They highlighted the reinstatement of the old pension scheme for 1.36 lakh government employees in the first cabinet meeting of the Congress government, a promise fulfilled. They contrasted this with Rajasthan, where the BJP government discontinued the previous pension scheme immediately after coming to power. They emphasized that only Congress governments ensure the security and welfare of government employees.

Furthermore, they accused the central government of imposing various restrictions on Himachal Pradesh for providing the old pension scheme, despite which the current state government remains committed to fulfilling the demands of its employees.

Addressing past grievances, Butail and Pathania recounted how BJP governments in the past resorted to violence and mockery against employees demanding old pensions. They asserted that the current government, under Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu, prioritizes the dignity and security of employees, allowing them to live their lives with self-respect.

The duo pointed out that the contributions of government employees have been instrumental in the development of Himachal Pradesh. Hence, ensuring their social security through the old pension scheme is crucial. Additionally, they highlighted the increment of dearness allowance from three to four percent during the current government’s tenure.

They accused disgruntled individuals of aligning with the anti-employee BJP and contesting elections on its tickets. They also criticized the previous BJP government for misusing public funds, resulting in a debt of over 75,000 crore rupees in Himachal Pradesh, thus worsening the state’s economic situation. However, they assured that the current government is actively working to rectify this financial mismanagement while providing financial benefits to government employees.
