The Himachal Pradesh Information and Public Relations Department organised a special awareness campaign in Scheduled Caste-dominated panchayats across Shimla district to educate people about various welfare schemes being implemented by the state government. Approved cultural troupes used street plays, folk performances and songs to spread awareness about government initiatives and the process of availing their benefits.

The campaign covered villages in Nerwa, Kedi, Balag, Jais and Pujarli-III panchayats, where artists highlighted schemes such as financial assistance for house construction under the Swarna Jayanti Ashraya Yojana, distribution of sewing machines and toolkits for self-employment, free one-year PGDCA/DTP computer training for eligible students, scholarships for persons with disabilities and incentives under the inter-caste marriage scheme.

The performers also appealed to people to stay away from drug abuse, particularly the menace of chitta, and encouraged greater social awareness. Local panchayat representatives and members of self-help groups attended the programme.
