1 min read

Shimla, October 25, 2025 — Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap announced that a special anti-drug awareness campaign will be conducted across all educational institutions in the district during November. Police officers will deliver lectures in uniform to students, emphasizing the harmful effects of drug abuse. Lectures without uniform will be strictly prohibited.

The DC directed that NGOs working in schools or at the panchayat level must now obtain prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. This step aims to ensure effective monitoring, as several NGOs were found to be inactive on the ground.

Police have completed nearly 90% of the task of establishing an information network against drug abuse with the help of local representatives. Drones are also being used to detect and curb illegal cannabis cultivation.

DC Kashyap appealed to all medical store owners not to sell syringes without a valid medical prescription and to maintain ID records of buyers.

So far this year, 224 NDPS Act cases have been registered, leading to 501 arrests. The seizures include 78.28 kg of charas, 25.63 kg of opium, 7.34 kg of chitta, and other narcotics. Among the arrested, 414 are Himachal residents, 62 from other states, and 25 are foreigners.
