New Delhi / Himachal Pradesh, August 12 – Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur, along with Kangra MP Rajeev Bhardwaj, met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today to demand a survey for a new rail line between Una and Kangra via Kunnah. The proposed railway project aims to connect Una, Hamirpur, and Kangra parliamentary constituencies to the rest of the country, benefiting students, pilgrims, traders, soldiers, and tourists.

Thakur emphasised the crucial role of rail and road connectivity in strengthening a state’s economy. He said that the “Devi Circuit” route would link several significant temples and pilgrimage sites, including Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple, Maa Jwalamukhi, Maa Chintpurni, Maa Baglamukhi, Maa Bajreshwari, Maa Chamunda Devi, Masroor Temple, and Baba Balak Nath Temple, attracting millions of devotees annually. The line would also serve major educational institutions like NIT, IIIT, medical colleges, and the Central University, providing a major boost to accessibility and development.

Bhardwaj highlighted that Kangra is home to Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and the world-famous Dharamshala Cricket Stadium. He said the proposed route would also enhance connectivity to key infrastructure and hydropower projects such as Pong Dam and Dhaulasidh Hydropower Project. The railway line is expected to significantly boost religious and cultural tourism, generate revenue, and create economic opportunities for the region. Improved connectivity would not only make travel easier for pilgrims from states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar but also attract domestic and international tourists.
