Anurag Thakur Elected Unopposed to Key IPU Committee on Democracy and Human Rights

6 April 2025, Tashkent, Uzbekistan: Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, has been elected unopposed to the *Bureau of the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights* of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) during its assembly in Tashkent. Despite nominations from four countries, Thakur’s name was proposed and unanimously supported during the session.
Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh, and other members of the Indian parliamentary delegation congratulated Anurag Thakur on this significant achievement.
The IPU is a global organization of national parliaments that fosters democratic governance, dialogue, and cooperation among lawmakers on international issues. Founded over 130 years ago, it is the world’s first multilateral political organization, complementing intergovernmental relations through parliamentary diplomacy.
