4 October 2024, Himachal Pradesh/Shimla: Former Union Minister and MP from Hamirpur, Anurag Singh Thakur, has condemned the Congress government’s decision to impose a tax on toilets in Himachal Pradesh, labeling it as a tyrannical decision by the ‘extortionist government’ of Congress.
Thakur stated, “The Congress government’s imposition of a tax on toilets in Himachal is outrageous. Under the Congress regime, Himachal has become the first state in the country to levy a tax on toilet seats. While Modi Ji has constructed 12 crore toilets across the country, Rahul Gandhi’s model of development is focused on generating revenue through toilet taxes. Under Sukhu’s government, the people of Himachal will have to pay taxes based on toilet seats, while the leaders enjoy the proceeds of that tax. The public is outraged by this bizarre decision of the Congress government. The condition of Himachal is such that promises of free electricity have been burdened with a cess, free water has come with charges, and now a tax on toilet seats is an attempt to deceive the public.”
Continuing his remarks, Thakur emphasized, “In just two years of Congress rule, Himachal has endured countless hardships. The women of Himachal are still waiting for their ₹1500 per month. Farmers are awaiting ₹2 per kg for cow dung and ₹100 per liter for milk. The youth are still waiting for 5 lakh jobs, and families are waiting for 300 units of free electricity. Not a single promise has been fulfilled, nor do they seem to have any intention of doing so. The Congress government continues to grind the people of Himachal under the mill of inflation.”
