Awareness Drive on Water Body Cleanliness Held in Gadsa
Kullu, October 8: The Fisheries Department organised an awareness and community participation programme at Gadsa under the statewide Water Body Cleanliness and Conservation Campaign being conducted from September 20 to October 20.
The programme promoted the messages “My Water Body, My Responsibility” and “Clean Water Bodies–Save Aquatic Life.” Panchayat representatives, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School Gadsa Anita Sharma, NSS volunteers and local residents participated in the initiative.
Participants cleaned the banks of the Gadsa water stream and collected around 45 kg of waste and debris. The activity highlighted the importance of keeping water sources clean and preventing pollution to protect aquatic life, biodiversity, human health and livelihoods dependent on natural water resources.
Senior Fisheries Officer Kullu Rajinder Pal Thakur urged panchayats, educational institutions, NGOs, Mahila and Yuva Mandals and the public to make water-body conservation a continuing community responsibility.
He said the campaign is being conducted under the guidance of Director-cum-Fisheries Commissioner Om Kant Thakur to promote public awareness, community ownership and sustainable conservation of aquatic ecosystems. The Fisheries Department also appealed to people to contribute towards keeping the Beas and other rivers, streams and water bodies clean and healthy.
