Himachal PE Teachers Undergo Advanced Sports Training at NIS Patiala

Shimla, June 2: In a major initiative to strengthen sports culture in government schools, 139 Physical Education teachers from Himachal Pradesh have begun a five-day advanced training programme at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NSNIS), Patiala, one of Asia’s premier sports training institutions.

The programme focuses on modern coaching techniques, sports science, fitness management, sports psychology, nutrition and contemporary training methodologies. Among the participants are 12 women teachers from various government schools across the state.

The training was inaugurated by NSNIS Director Sumit Niglani in the presence of Deputy Director (Academics) Sudhir Kumar Reddy, Academic In-charge Ajay Jhangra and sports nutrition expert Dr. Pooja. Officials said the initiative aims to equip teachers with advanced knowledge and practical skills to improve sports education and athlete development at the school level.

Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma described the programme as a visionary step that will enhance the quality of sports training in schools and help prepare students for state, national and international competitions.

The state government plans to train a total of 650 Physical Education teachers in phases at NSNIS Patiala. The first batch of 135 teachers underwent training earlier this year, while additional batches will follow in the coming months.
