A district-level implementation and monitoring committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal to strengthen the cooperative sector and accelerate digital transformation in Chamba district.
During the meeting, approval was granted for the computerisation of 31 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) across development blocks including Chamba, Bharmour, Mehla, Pangi, Salooni, and Tissa under Phase III of the initiative.
The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to ensure that all credit and non-credit activities of PACS are brought onto digital platforms. He emphasized the need for organizing sub-divisional level training workshops for society secretaries to enhance awareness and ensure accurate online data entry.
Repswal also instructed departments to take concrete steps to enhance income sources of cooperative societies and increase loan disbursement through Kisan Credit Cards.
Officials informed that 83 societies in the district have already been covered under Phase I and II of the computerisation drive. NABARD representatives shared insights on over 15 income-generating activities for PACS, including vermicompost units, cold storage, warehouses, custom hiring centres, and solar-based projects.
The State Cooperative Bank Manager briefed the committee on the technical aspects and progress of the computerisation process.
The initiative is expected to improve transparency, efficiency, and financial inclusion in the cooperative sector while empowering farmers and rural communities.
