18 Pieces of Metal Wire Removed from Buffalo’s Stomach at Lalri Veterinary Hospital

Una, August 13: A team of veterinary doctors at the Veterinary Hospital Lalri successfully performed a complex surgery to remove 18 pieces of metal wire from the stomach of a buffalo, saving its life.
The buffalo, belonging to Ram Agnihotri of Gondpur Jaichand, had not been eating fodder for around 10 days. The owner brought the animal to the polyclinic for treatment. After examination, the veterinary team advised an ultrasound, which confirmed the presence of a foreign object in the buffalo’s stomach.
Considering the animal’s condition, the doctors immediately decided to perform surgery. During the operation, 18 pieces of metal wire were removed from its stomach. The buffalo was subsequently provided with necessary treatment and post-operative care, following which its condition began to improve.
The successful surgery was performed by Dr. Nishant Ranaut, Dr. Navneet Sharma and Dr. Shilpa Ranaut, with Veterinary Pharmacist Saurav and team members Reema, Sunanda, Deepak, Saksham and Vikas providing important assistance.
Veterinary doctors said that animals can accidentally swallow nails, wires, pieces of iron and other metallic objects along with fodder, potentially causing serious health complications. Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment are therefore essential. In this case, the problem was identified through ultrasound and successfully treated through surgery.
The veterinary team urged livestock owners to carefully check fodder and remove any wires, nails or other metallic objects before feeding it to animals. They also advised owners to immediately consult a veterinarian if an animal stops eating for an extended period or shows any unusual change in health.
