Shimla, August 17: Monsoon wreaks havoc in Himachal Pradesh with continuous heavy rainfall causing widespread destruction. The state has witnessed incessant rain for the past 48 hours, leading to a scene of devastation across various regions, including Shimla. The unrelenting downpour has left people fearing for their safety even within the confines of their homes.

According to the Meteorological Department, there might be some respite in the coming days. The possibility of reduced rainfall in the next few days is being indicated, which could pave the way for rescue operations.

Suren Pal, the Director of Shimla Meteorological Center, shared that the ongoing monsoon rainfall has resulted in a significant downturn. This trend is expected to continue until the 21st of August. He mentioned that after the 21st, there might be another phase of rainfall in the state, with some areas experiencing heavy showers. Suren Pal also stated that alerts could be issued for certain regions in such circumstances.

He further noted that if we consider the entire month of August, towards the end of the month, there might be a resurgence of monsoon activity. However, the continuous rains pose a significant challenge for rescue operations. If the rains bring relief, it could accelerate relief and recovery efforts in the state.
