Medical College Teachers Announce Phased Agitation, Secretariat March on November 5
Shimla, October 28: The State Association of Medical and Dental College Teachers (SAMDCOT) has announced a phased agitation against what it termed arbitrary and discriminatory government orders affecting medical faculty in Himachal Pradesh.
At an emergency general body meeting held on Wednesday, the association decided to observe a daily pen-down strike from 9:30 am to 11 am from November 2 to 4 across departments in government medical and dental colleges. Emergency services, trauma care and intensive care units will continue to function during the protest.
SAMDCOT said that if the state government fails to initiate constructive dialogue or address its demands by November 4, faculty members will take mass casual leave on November 5 and march to the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat in Shimla, demanding the withdrawal of the contentious orders.
The association said its decision followed continued dissatisfaction over service conditions, administrative delays and unresolved grievances of faculty members. It added that a formal notice of the agitation had been submitted to the authorities, including the Principal of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, for onward transmission to the Department of Medical Education and the state government.
SAMDCOT expressed regret over the inconvenience the pen-down demonstrations may cause to outpatients but said it had been compelled to resort to democratic protest to safeguard faculty rights and institutional dignity.
