Social Welfare Schemes in Chamba District: Over ₹86 Crore Spent, 53,616 Beneficiaries Reached

Chamba, August 23, 2024: The Himachal Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has been prioritizing social welfare with significant positive outcomes visible in the Chamba district. The government’s commitment to systemic transformation is reflected in the successful implementation of various schemes, benefiting those at the last mile of society.

Given the unique geographical challenges of Chamba district, extra efforts have been made to ensure the success of any scheme or initiative. The Social Justice and Empowerment Department has been instrumental in providing economic security and social protection to the underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society through the effective implementation of numerous welfare programs.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, the District Welfare Office of Chamba spent ₹86.55 crore, benefiting 53,616 eligible individuals through various social welfare schemes. Social security pension schemes play a vital role in ensuring a dignified life for the elderly, widows, and disabled persons, with 52,885 pensioners in the district receiving benefits. Last year, ₹84.32 crore was allocated under these social security pension schemes.

The state’s new initiative, ‘Mukhyamantri Sukhashraya Yojana,’ has been a boon for 23 orphaned children in the district, giving them hope for a brighter future. Additionally, the ‘Indira Gandhi Pyari Bahna Sukha Samman Nidhi Yojana,’ launched to empower women, has already provided ₹56 lakh in honorarium to 1,245 women applicants in the first phase.

Last year, 83 eligible families from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes received ₹1.25 crore under the Housing Grant Scheme. Through the successful implementation of various welfare schemes, policies, and programs, the state government reaffirms its commitment to public welfare.
