International Yoga Day Celebrated at APG Shimla University

Shimla, June 21, 2025:
APG Shimla University celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm on its campus, aligning with this year’s global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Student Welfare and the Media Department under the leadership of Dr. Neelam Sharma and Dr. Vijayshree.

Over 250 participants, including university students, faculty members, officers, employees, local residents, Himachal Pradesh Home Guard personnel, and NDRF jawans, participated in the yoga training and awareness camp. The session aimed to promote physical well-being, reduce stress, and encourage positive lifestyle changes.

Additional District Magistrate, Shimla, Ms. Jyoti Rana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address, she emphasized the importance of yoga as a tool for mental peace, physical health, and spiritual strength. She urged the youth to embrace yoga as a natural antidote to addiction and lifestyle-related disorders.

Renowned Art of Living Guru and Yogacharya Aditya Sood led the session, guiding participants through a variety of yogasanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques. Asanas like Chakrasana, Bhujangasana, Vrikshasana, Trikonasana, Surya Namaskar, and Shavasana were practiced, aiming to address common ailments such as joint pain, fatigue, and stress.

Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chauhan, Chancellor Engineer Suman Vikrant, and Registrar Prof. Dr. R.L. Sharma welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of yoga as India’s ancient gift to the world. Dr. Chauhan noted that yoga has been a cornerstone of Indian spiritual tradition since the Vedic era and continues to serve as a global wellness practice today.

Senior university officials including Prof. Dr. Ashwani Sharma, heads of various departments, NSS volunteers, and community members actively participated in the session. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Registrar Prof. Dr. R.L. Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the guests, instructors, organizing team, and all participants, encouraging them to integrate yoga into their daily lives for long-term health and harmony.
