HPU Faculty and Staff Protest Over Delay in Salary Disbursement

1 min read

Shimla, March 4 – The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) witnessed an unprecedented protest as both teaching and non-teaching staff united against the delay in salary disbursement. For the first time in the university’s history, employees staged a sit-in outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, demanding immediate salary release.

Addressing the protest, HPUTWA President Nitin Vyas expressed concern, stating, “It is unfortunate that employees haven’t received their salaries even by the 4th of the month. This new financial system forces the university to seek funds every month, leaving us at the mercy of government approvals.” He criticized the administration, questioning, “Is this the promised system change – no salary, no promotions?”

Non-teaching staff union president Rajesh Thakur condemned the university administration, saying, “We are a family, and it is disgraceful that university employees have to take to the streets for their rightful dues.” Dr. Jogendra Saklani warned, “We will continue our agitation until our demands are met.” Other speakers, including EC court member Suresh, employee representative Naresh, pensioners’ association president P.C. Chandel, and HPUTWA General Secretary Dr. Ankush Bharadwaj, also voiced their concerns.

The protestors issued a stern warning that if salaries are not released by tomorrow, faculty and staff will launch an indefinite strike, bringing the university’s functioning to a halt.
