HPNLU Organizes Model UNODC on Combating Synthetic Drugs

Shimla, April 28, 2025: The Youth Red Cross Society (YRC) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, organized the Model United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Conference 2025, themed “Addressing Emerging Non-Scheduled Synthetic Drugs and Implementing Alternatives to Conviction or Punishment,” aligned with the “Chase Dreams, Not Drugs” campaign.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Dr. Amit Sachdeva from IGMC Shimla, and Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar, HPNLU. They emphasized the need for multilateral cooperation, community-based rehabilitation, and youth-led policymaking to tackle synthetic drug challenges.

Delegates from diverse academic backgrounds engaged in extensive deliberations on synthetic drug proliferation, trafficking networks, and rehabilitative approaches. A Resolution on Global Drug Policy Reform was adopted, advocating preventive education, international intelligence collaboration, and community outreach initiatives.

The conference was coordinated by Dr. Rohit Sharma (Faculty Coordinator, YRC), Mr. Romil Chawla (President, YRC), and the YRC team. It concluded with an awards ceremony honoring outstanding delegates, reinforcing HPNLU’s commitment to nurturing informed and responsible global citizens.
