Tension in Bilaspur After Mazaar Vandalized at Historic Sandhu Ground

In a shocking incident, an unidentified group vandalized a mazaar (shrine) located at the historic Sandhu Ground near the Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on the night of April 13. The shrine had recently become a point of controversy, especially after misleading posts circulated on social media about a week ago. A few activists from the Savarn Morcha had also visited the site but left after learning about its history.

Despite an FIR being filed earlier, the shrine was destroyed before the police investigation concluded. Tension gripped the area on Sunday morning when locals discovered the damage. Police have increased security in the area as a precaution.

ASP Shiv Chaudhary confirmed that a case has been registered against unknown individuals, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is under examination. DSP Madan Dhiman also assured a fair investigation and promised that the culprits will be arrested soon.
