CBI Raids ED Office in Shimla Over ₹2.5 Crore Bribery Case
Shimla Dec 29
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted another raid at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Shimla on Saturday in connection with a ₹2.5 crore bribery case linked to money laundering complaints. The raid, lasting from 11 AM to 4 PM, involved scrutiny of multiple documents.
A middleman was arrested and presented in a special court in Chandigarh, which sent him to a one-day CBI custody. Meanwhile, ED staff at the Shimla office has undergone changes, with a Joint Director from Chandigarh reassigned to the Delhi headquarters.
The main accused, ED Assistant Director Vishal Deep Singh, remains absconding and has been suspended. The CBI had been investigating him for a month but could not act earlier due to insufficient evidence. On December 24, a raid was conducted after receiving complaints of bribery. Singh escaped with an accomplice, while his brother was arrested in Haryana’s Jind with ₹55 lakh.
CBI teams are now in Gurugram to recover Singh’s mobile, which could provide critical location data to trace him.
