K.K. Pant Flags Off Heritage Ride for 13th MTB Shimla 2026
Shimla, October 23: Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary K.K. Pant (IAS) flagged off the heritage ride for the 13th MTB Shimla 2026, powered by Hartex, from the historic Ridge Maidan on Friday. The three-day mountain biking event will be held from October 23 to 25, featuring over 80 riders from 20 cities across India.
Organised by HASTPA, the event has attracted participants aged 11 to 68 across U-16, U-19, Open, Masters and Grandmasters categories. Shimla’s 11-year-old Kaarik Sharma is the youngest participant, while 68-year-old Maheshwar Dutt is the oldest.
Pant appreciated HASTPA’s efforts to promote mountain biking over the past two decades, saying Himachal Pradesh has immense potential for adventure tourism. He added that the state government is committed to developing cycling and mountain biking.
The 13th edition returns to its cross-country marathon format, covering approximately 130 km with 3,800 metres of elevation gain across a prologue and two timed stages. Nearly 90 per cent of the route comprises off-road trails, forest paths and rugged mountain terrain. Gravel bikes will be permitted for the first time.
The prologue began at the Ridge on October 23, while the two stages will take place on October 24 and 25, traversing scenic routes around Kufri, Mashobra, Fagu and surrounding areas.
Hartex Director Varun Sureka said the company’s new 2.4-inch Xtreme II tyre with X-Shield was developed in response to riders’ requirements for wider and more durable tyres.
Royal Enfield Social Mission has partnered with HASTPA to promote helmet safety under its Helmets for India initiative. The event carries a total prize purse of Rs 8 lakh across six categories and is being held in association with Himachal Tourism, with support from several corporate and media partners.
