Kangra Allows Green Crackers During Diwali and Other Major Festivals

Dharamshala, October 21: The Kangra district administration has permitted the sale and use of green crackers during Diwali, Gurpurab, Christmas and New Year, while imposing strict time limits and safety regulations.

Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority Chairperson Hemraj Bairwa issued the order under Sections 33 and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The directions will remain in force until January 1, 2027.

Crackers can be burst on Diwali, November 8, from 8 pm to 10 pm. On Gurpurab, November 24, the permitted timings are 4 am to 5 am and 9 pm to 10 pm. For Christmas and New Year, crackers can be burst from 11.55 pm to 12.30 am on December 25–26 and December 31–January 1, respectively.

Wholesale and retail sales will require prior written permission from the concerned SDM (Civil). Shops must have fire safety equipment, sand buckets, emergency exits and trained staff, with a minimum distance of three metres between two cracker shops.

Fireworks are prohibited in markets, government offices, hospitals, educational institutions, silence zones and near heritage buildings and protected monuments. The administration has directed officials to enforce the restrictions and take action against violations.

The DC urged residents to follow the prescribed timings and safety norms and celebrate responsibly, keeping environmental protection and public health in mind.
