Jai Ram Thakur Attends Shiksha Mahakumbh at NIT Hamirpur

Hamirpur, October 10, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur attended Shiksha Mahakumbh organised at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, where he reviewed an exhibition showcasing innovations developed by students.

Addressing the gathering, Thakur said that the vision of a developed India could be realised by building a self-reliant nation driven by science, research and innovation. He said the goal of *Viksit Bharat* reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-term vision and confidence in the country’s potential.

Thakur highlighted India’s achievements in space exploration, defence and healthcare, noting that the country had made significant progress in scientific and technological fields. He also emphasised the importance of creating an environment that encourages young people to contribute to national development through research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Praising Vidya Bharati’s initiatives, including Vidya Bharati Shodhankur, he said efforts to promote scientific thinking and integrate education, nature and progress were commendable. He added that education should go beyond employment and focus on character-building, nation-building and service to humanity.

“Our Vedic tradition views education not merely as a means of employment but as a tool for building individuals and the nation,” Thakur said. He stressed that quality education, scientific curiosity, innovative teaching and research-oriented learning were essential foundations of a developed India.

During the event, he visited the exhibition and observed various innovative projects presented by participating students.

### Criticises Congress and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu

Responding to questions from journalists, Thakur criticised the Congress leadership, alleging that the party was creating an atmosphere of distrust towards constitutional institutions after losing public confidence. He claimed that the BJP continued to enjoy public support under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Commenting on Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Thakur advised him to focus on internal party issues rather than criticising the BJP. He alleged that the Chief Minister’s repeated visits to Delhi reflected concerns within the state Congress leadership.

Thakur also referred to recent political developments and election results, claiming that voters had expressed their dissatisfaction with the state government. He urged the Chief Minister to concentrate on his party’s unity and governance.

The programme highlighted the role of education, scientific temper and student-led innovation in achieving India’s long-term development goals.
