DC Reviews Firecracker Sale and Storage Arrangements Ahead of Diwali
Shimla, October 7: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap chaired a meeting with officials, firecracker sellers and other stakeholders to review arrangements for the safe sale and storage of firecrackers ahead of Diwali.
Kashyap said the sale, storage, transportation and distribution of firecrackers in Shimla district must comply with the Explosives Act, 1884, Explosives Rules, 2008, and conditions of valid licences and permissions. Firecrackers will be permitted for sale and storage only at duly licensed premises, and violations will invite action.
Officials and sellers were directed to follow prescribed safety norms, including maintaining approved stock limits, purchasing only from authorised manufacturers or suppliers, keeping proper stock and sales records, displaying licences prominently, and maintaining adequate fire-fighting arrangements.
The guidelines also prohibit smoking and open flames near storage and sale premises and require safe electrical wiring, clear emergency access, proper packaging and safe transportation. Unauthorised or unsafe firecrackers, including those exceeding prescribed sound limits, will not be permitted for sale.
The administration also stressed that temporary stalls require separate permission and that any fire, explosion, missing stock or other serious incident must be reported immediately to the police and concerned licensing authority.
Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma and other stakeholders were present at the meeting.
