Director Inspects Trout Brood Bank Under Construction at Patlikuhal
Kullu, October 4: Director and Chief Conservator of Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh, Om Kant Thakur inspected various activities and development works of the Fisheries Department in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti and directed officials to expedite projects and complete them within the stipulated timelines.
At Trout Farm Patlikuhal, he inspected the construction of Himachal Pradesh’s first Trout Brood Bank and reviewed the progress of the project. He directed officials to complete the construction within the prescribed timeframe.
He also inspected the Ready-to-Eat Somkad Trout Fish Canning Unit being established at the farm and directed that the required machinery and equipment be installed at the earliest so that operations can begin soon.
The Director also reviewed restoration work on the water supply system of the Patlikuhal Trout Farm, which was completely damaged during the heavy rains and disaster in 2025. He discussed the matter with officials of the Jal Shakti Department and urged immediate action to restore the water supply.
Thakur also inspected the state’s first Cold Water Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) at Patlikuhal and reviewed the growth of trout being reared there. He also inspected the trout brood stock at Batahar Trout Hatchery and expressed hope for good breeding results in the coming months.
In Lahaul-Spiti, the Director inspected departmental land at Sissu and said efforts were underway to establish a Fisheries Department office there. He also assessed the possibility of introducing angling tourism at Sissu Lake, which he said could boost tourism, local employment and economic activity while increasing departmental revenue.
Senior Fisheries Department officials and technical teams accompanied the Director during the inspection.
