DC Calls for Better Credit-Deposit Ratio in Kangra
Dharamshala, September 22, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa has directed banks in Kangra to improve their credit-deposit ratio and expand lending under government schemes to promote entrepreneurship, self-employment and economic growth.
Chairing the quarterly DLRC and DCC meeting, Bairwa said banks had deposits of Rs 52,775.32 crore and disbursed loans worth Rs 13,696.26 crore during the first quarter of 2026-27, taking the credit-deposit ratio to 25.95 per cent.
He called for increased lending to farmers through Kisan Credit Cards, support for agricultural mechanisation, fisheries, dairy farming and allied activities. Banks were also directed to promote social security, education loan and self-employment schemes.
Bairwa urged every bank branch to adopt at least one TB patient as a Nikshay Mitra and contribute to the TB eradication campaign. He also sought factual suggestions on increasing the housing loan limit and directed banks showing slow progress to undertake field visits and improve performance before the next review.
The meeting also approved the merger of several bank branches in the district as part of administrative rationalisation.
