Shimla | 7 September 2026
The Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies (CHRDS), Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, in collaboration with the Centre for Tribal and Cultural Studies (CTCS), organised an awareness drive on Gender Equality and Disability Awareness at Raja Dalip Singh Memorial Public School on 5 September 2026. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena and aimed at promoting awareness regarding gender equality, elimination of discrimination, and the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
As part of the programme, students of HPNLU presented an engaging and thought-provoking skit highlighting the importance of equality, dignity, and respect for all individuals irrespective of gender. Through an interactive performance, the participants addressed prevalent gender stereotypes and discriminatory practices while encouraging school students to embrace values of inclusivity, fairness, and equal opportunity.
The awareness drive also featured experiential learning activities designed to foster greater sensitivity towards the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. Students actively participated in activities such as the Dominant Hand Activity and the Blindfold Game, which provided practical insights into issues of accessibility, everyday barriers, and the importance of empathy and social inclusion.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students, who actively engaged in the activities and discussions. The interactive sessions encouraged meaningful reflection on the importance of creating a society that respects diversity and upholds the rights and dignity of every individual. The initiative was organized by Dr. Sachin Sharma, Director, CHRDS, and Dr. Narinder Pal, Faculty Coordinator, CTCS.
The awareness drive reaffirmed HPNLU’s commitment to promoting human rights education, social inclusion, and community engagement through meaningful outreach initiatives aimed at creating a more equitable and inclusive society.
