Dr Shandil flags off e-rickshaws for waste collection in seven Solan panchayats

Solan, September 5: Health and Family Welfare, Social Justice and Empowerment and Sainik Welfare Minister Col (Dr) Dhaniram Shandil on Saturday flagged off e-rickshaws for door-to-door waste collection in seven gram panchayats of the Solan Assembly constituency.

The e-rickshaws have been provided by the Himachal Pradesh Rural Development Department under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin. They will collect waste from Dangri, Kothon, Nauni Majhgaon, Salogra, Ochhghat, Anji and Saproon gram panchayats and transport it to designated waste collection sheds in the respective panchayats.

The collected waste will subsequently be taken to the waste management units at the development block level for proper processing and disposal.

Dr Shandil said the environment-friendly initiative aims to make waste management in rural areas more efficient, modern and pollution-free. Under the initiative, wet and dry waste will be collected separately from households and commercial establishments in the selected panchayats.

He said the use of e-rickshaws would help reduce carbon emissions while also making waste collection easier on narrow rural roads.
