School Students Explore Parliamentary Democracy, Interact with Himachal Assembly Speaker
Shimla, August 25: Students of Government Senior Secondary Schools, Sanjauli and Kariyali, Shimla, interacted with Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania at the Assembly Secretariat and gained insights into the functioning of the parliamentary system.
During the interaction, students asked questions about the parliamentary system, the Legislative Assembly and the election of the Speaker. Pathania explained the federal structure of India, the multi-party electoral system and the role of legislators in raising issues concerning their constituencies through questions and various legislative procedures.
The Speaker informed the students that the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has 68 seats and explained the process of government formation and the election of the Speaker by elected members of the House. He also encouraged the students to learn about the Constitution, democracy and the functioning of democratic institutions.
Pathania also interacted with the students through questions on democracy, the Constitution and the history of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He invited them to observe the proceedings of the House and encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
