Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the present state government has taken several significant steps in the last three and a half years to strengthen healthcare, education and the rural economy of the state. He said the government is working towards bringing rapid transformation in all three sectors while ensuring that the poor and underprivileged sections of society have access to affordable healthcare within the state.
The Chief Minister said state government has introduced AIIMS-level robotic surgery facilities, making Himachal one of the leading destinations for advanced surgical treatment in North India. While robotic surgery in the private sector costs around Rs 6-7 lakh, the same procedures are being performed in Himachal for approximately Rs 30,000 to Rs 80,000.
He said robotic surgery symbolizes the state government’s vision of transforming healthcare services. The facility has been introduced in all medical colleges across the state, where more than 700 robotic surgeries have already been performed.
Sh. Sukhu said three-Tesla MRI machines have been installed in all medical colleges and the government aims to eliminate the waiting list for MRI, CT scans and X-rays within the next six months. Automated laboratories will also be established in all medical colleges within the next four months, enabling multiple tests to be conducted from a single blood sample.
He emphasized that the state government is funding these healthcare reforms from its own resources. An Allied Health College is being established in Hamirpur, while 320 additional postgraduate medical seats are being added in the state this year. He said the government is also considering increasing doctor’s salaries and providing non-practising allowance (NPA) as per requirements.
Highlighting reforms in education, the Chief Minister said government schools would soon be in a position to compete with private schools in providing quality education to the students. More than 150 CBSE schools have been opened by the state government, where teachers with more than 80 percent merit are being appointed. He said the recruitment process of teachers in these CBSE schools would be completed by 15 September this year.
Sh. Sukhu said the government is also giving special attention to social security and the rural economy. He said Himachal Pradesh provides ecological services worth around Rs 90,000 crore to the country and the state government is firmly pursuing its rights and interests at the appropriate forums.
The Chief Minister further said that despite a reduction of Rs. 8,000 crore annually in Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG), there had been no delay in the payment of salaries to employees or pensions to pensioners.
He said the state government is also planning to develop three new towns and reduce the size of the administrative machinery so that more public money can be utilized for the welfare of the people.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the ‘Himachal Ratan’ programme organised by Divya Himachal Newspapers Group. He also gave away Himachal Ratan Puruskar to 13 distinguished persons for their outstanding services in their respective fields.
