Accelerate Efforts for Effective Operation of Kasol MRF Plant: ADM Surjeet Singh Rathore

Kullu, August 17, 2026: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADM) Kullu Surjeet Singh Rathore chaired a review meeting on the effective operation of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Kasol and issued a series of directions to strengthen sanitation and waste management in Kasol and surrounding areas.

During the meeting, Rathore emphasised the need to further strengthen the Special Area Development Authority (SADA) to ensure smooth and effective implementation of sanitation activities in the region.

The Rural Development Department was directed to streamline regular door-to-door waste collection. Under the existing arrangement, wet and dry waste is being segregated and collected daily from the Manikaran area, while collection in Kasol is being carried out on alternate days.

To streamline the sanitation fee system, bulk waste generators, including commercial establishments and hotels, will be identified so that the prescribed sanitation charges can be collected from them as per applicable rules.

The ADM also directed the Rural Development Department to immediately coordinate with the contractor to improve the approach road leading to the Kasol MRF plant. He further instructed officials to prepare estimates at the earliest for installing an additional electricity meter, constructing a toilet and developing the required platform within the plant premises.

Rathore directed officials to coordinate closely with Pradeep Bodh of the non-governmental organisation Healing Himalayas and other stakeholders to ensure that all pending works are completed within the stipulated timeline.

He stressed that effective coordination among all concerned departments and stakeholders would be essential for strengthening waste management and maintaining cleanliness in the Kasol-Manikaran region.
