Eye Check-up Camp and Road Safety Awareness Programme Held for Commercial Drivers

Kullu, August 13: The Transport Department, in collaboration with the Health Department, organized an eye check-up camp and road safety awareness programme for commercial vehicle drivers at the Taxi Union in Manali.

During the camp, the eyesight of commercial drivers was examined to promote safe driving and reduce the risk of road accidents caused by impaired vision. Eye specialist Meenakshi Pathania was present and assisted with the eye examinations of the drivers.

Alongside the medical check-up, the Transport Department conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activity on road safety. Drivers were sensitized about responsible driving practices, compliance with traffic rules and the importance of maintaining roadworthy vehicles. They were also informed about penalties and legal consequences for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and applicable motor vehicle rules.

Officials from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Kullu also participated in the programme and interacted with the drivers. They emphasized the important role of commercial vehicle operators in ensuring road safety and protecting the lives of passengers and other road users.

The Transport Department said that similar awareness and preventive programmes will continue to be organized in coordination with other departments to promote safe, responsible and compliant driving practices among commercial vehicle operators.
