Dharamshala, August 11: Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, who is currently on a visit to Delhi, met Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan and raised a proposal for establishing modern Food Corporation of India (FCI) steel silos in Shahpur for the storage of wheat and rice.
In a memorandum submitted to the Union Minister, Pathania said that setting up a modern and scientific grain storage facility in Shahpur would significantly benefit farmers as well as the food processing sector. He said steel silos would ensure safer and more efficient storage of foodgrains while helping reduce post-harvest losses.
Pathania pointed out that FCI has established modern steel silo facilities under the public-private partnership model in major agricultural states including Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. He said a similar facility in Shahpur would be an important step towards strengthening the region’s agricultural infrastructure.
The MLA also informed the Union Minister that several food-processing projects are under consideration in Himachal Pradesh, including a potato processing centre in Una, a spice park in Nadaun and a kinnow processing centre in Kangra. He said establishing an FCI silo in Shahpur could further strengthen and complement these initiatives.
Pathania urged the Union Minister to approve the establishment of an FCI steel silo in Shahpur for wheat and rice storage in the larger public interest. He said the facility would promote value addition, scientific storage and processing of agricultural produce while helping farmers gain access to better market opportunities.
