The Shimla District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has reviewed monsoon preparedness and directed all departments to remain on high alert to ensure a swift response to any emergency during the rainy season.
Chairing a meeting of the DDMA, Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Anupam Kashyap said the district administration is fully prepared to deal with monsoon-related emergencies. He instructed all departments to maintain close coordination, closely monitor weather alerts, and ensure timely action in vulnerable areas.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department, Electricity Board, Police, Health Department, Municipal Corporation, Fire Services, Revenue, Forest, Education, and other agencies to complete all precautionary measures. He stressed the need to identify landslide-prone locations, maintain drainage systems, keep roads clear of debris, and ensure adequate machinery and manpower for emergency response.
Officials were instructed to keep control rooms operational round the clock, while all SDMs, tehsildars, and field staff have been asked to remain on alert throughout the monsoon season.
The administration also appealed to residents to avoid rivers, streams, landslide-prone areas, and unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, while strictly following official advisories.
Reviewing disaster data, officials noted that 283 people lost their lives in various disasters between 2022 and 2025, with road accidents accounting for the highest number of fatalities, followed by landslides, falls from heights, drowning, and cloudburst incidents.
Rainfall data presented during the meeting showed that precipitation has remained significantly above normal over the past four years, highlighting the need for enhanced preparedness across the district.
