Shimla | July 9

The Shimla district administration has directed strict implementation of the Supreme Court’s guidelines to ensure prompt registration and investigation of missing persons cases, particularly those involving women and children.

The directions were issued during a meeting of the District Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. The meeting focused on implementing the Supreme Court’s directions in the G. Ganesha vs State of Tamil Nadu case to strengthen the response to missing persons complaints.

The Deputy Commissioner said police must register an FIR immediately upon receiving information about a missing person and begin investigations without unnecessary delay. He stressed that preliminary inquiries cannot be used as a reason to postpone legal action, and every complaint must be handled with urgency and sensitivity.

The Supreme Court has also emphasised strengthening Anti Human Trafficking Units with adequate resources and modern technology to improve search operations and prevent trafficking and other crimes linked to missing persons.

Kashyap said effective implementation of these directions would enhance the safety of women and children, improve public confidence in law enforcement, and facilitate the timely recovery of missing persons.

The meeting was attended by District Programme Officer Mamta Paul, Municipal Corporation Health Officer Dr. Anjali Chauhan, and other officials.

The Deputy Commissioner also announced that a district-level workshop on child protection will be organised within the next three weeks. The workshop will bring together government departments, child welfare institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders to discuss legal provisions, implementation mechanisms, institutional coordination, and child safety measures.
