Shimla, June 28: A total of 50,454 children under the age of five were administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) on the first day of the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign across Shimla district.
The doses were administered through 704 Pulse Polio booths set up across the district. A special booth at the Shoghi police barrier also vaccinated children of tourists travelling through the area, while cultural performances by local artists helped raise awareness about the campaign.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Yashpal Ranta appreciated the efforts of health workers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, volunteers, police, local bodies, and other departments for ensuring the campaign’s success. He urged parents whose children missed the vaccination on the first day to cooperate with door-to-door health teams visiting on June 29 and 30, ensuring that no eligible child is left without the life-saving vaccine.
The health department reiterated its commitment to achieving and sustaining a polio-free India through complete immunisation coverage.
