Promise, Raises Concerns Over Law and Order

Shimla, June 20: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur accused the Himachal Pradesh government of reneging on its election promise of providing 300 units of free electricity to consumers. He alleged that instead of fulfilling its guarantee, the government reduced existing power subsidies and increased electricity charges, placing an additional financial burden on households and farmers. Thakur also criticized the imposition of a 33-paise per unit Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) surcharge, claiming it would further increase electricity bills.

The former Chief Minister also expressed concern over the state’s law and order situation and alleged growing discord among senior bureaucrats and police officers. Referring to recent crime incidents and reports of differences within the administrative and police setup, he held the state government responsible for what he described as administrative failure. Thakur claimed that internal conflicts among IAS and IPS officers were affecting governance and called on the Chief Minister to address the situation more effectively.
