Law and Order Situation in Himachal a Matter of Serious Concern: Jairam Thakur

1 min read

Shimla, June 14: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has expressed serious concern over the law and order situation in Himachal Pradesh, following the recent shooting death of a woman in Shimla.

In a statement issued from Shimla, Thakur alleged that despite repeatedly expressing fears for her safety and seeking protection from the authorities, the woman could not be safeguarded. He described the incident as a major failure of the police, administration and the state government.

The Leader of Opposition said such incidents were previously rare in Himachal Pradesh and called for strict action against all those involved in the crime. He also demanded accountability and action against officials found negligent in handling the matter.

Thakur alleged that rising incidents of crime, drug abuse and violence across the state have raised serious questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement. He urged the government to focus on strengthening policing and ensuring public safety rather than engaging in political confrontations.

Emphasizing Himachal Pradesh’s image as a peaceful state and a major tourist destination, Thakur warned that deteriorating law and order could adversely affect the state’s reputation and economy. He called upon the Chief Minister to take effective measures to improve public security and address weaknesses in the system.

The BJP leader said maintaining peace, ensuring citizens’ safety and restoring public confidence should be the government’s highest priority.
