Second phase of Anti-Chitta awareness campaign launched in Solan district
Solan, June 1: Deputy Commissioner Solan Manmohan Sharma said that the district administration is committed to keeping the young generation away from social evils like drug addiction. Manmohan Sharma was addressing students, teachers and others present after the launch of the second phase of the anti-Chitta awareness campaign at the Government Senior Secondary School, Solan, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education.
Manmohan Sharma said that, as per the directions of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Thakur, an intensive campaign is being implemented in the state to keep the youth away from drugs and to eradicate drugs like Chitta. He said that under the campaign, various programs and targeted campaigns are being run at all levels in all districts to provide positive direction to the energy of the youth and keep them away from drugs. The objective of these campaigns is to unite the society against drugs like Chitta and to eliminate drug addiction through the coordinated cooperation of various departments, voluntary organizations and the general public.
The Deputy Commissioner said that young people must learn to say no to drugs and keep their peers away from this poison. He added that today’s students will help move the country and state forward tomorrow. Maintaining mental and physical health is essential not only for the youth but for society as a whole.
Manmohan Sharma said that while drugs like chitta gradually disable young people, they also lead to economic weakness and social exclusion. He said that if young people are determined, they cannot be trapped by any kind of drug.
He urged students to stay away from drugs for the sake of society, their families, and their own future. He expressed hope that young people will always remain united against drug abuse and will also keep their peers away from it. He said that students should also make regular exercise and sports an integral part of their lives.
Manmohan Sharma said that, as directed by the state government, the district administration will implement the second phase of the anti-Chitta awareness campaign in all government senior secondary schools, government high schools, and private schools in the district from June 1, 2026, to August 20, 2026. Under the campaign, students will be made aware of the ill effects of drug addiction, especially Chitta, so that they can adopt a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free lifestyle.
He urged teachers and parents to maintain friendly behavior with students and along with education, provide them information about moral values and positive activities.
The Deputy Commissioner said that various officers of the district have been directed to create awareness among the students under the Anti-Chitta Awareness Campaign in schools by August 20, 2026 so that the overall drug-free campaign can be successful.
On this occasion, detailed information about the ill effects of drug addiction was provided to the students.
Senior officials of the Education Department, teachers and students were present on this occasion.
