Himachal Government School Students Shine at International Coding Competition in Jakarta

Shimla, May 21: Students from Himachal Pradesh government schools have brought laurels to the state and the country by delivering an outstanding performance at the international level during the Codeavour International competition held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Students Rishabh Thakur and Shivank Kashyap from Government Boys Senior Secondary School (GBSSS) Mandi secured first position in the “Innovator Award for Out of the Box Idea” category for their innovative project titled “Smart Dam Monitoring and Alerting System.” The international competition was organised at BINUS University, Jakarta.

The students presented their project under the “Inspiring Creative Minds (STEM)” initiative of Samagra Shiksha Himachal Pradesh. Their innovative idea and impactful presentation received appreciation from experts and participants from different countries.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma congratulated the students, teachers and parents for the remarkable achievement.

A total of 266 teams from 22 countries participated in the competition, which was organised across three different tracks. Team “HimTech” represented Himachal Pradesh and India in the senior category of Track-1 and achieved this prestigious recognition on the global stage.

Earlier, the students were selected for the national competition after performing exceptionally well at the state-level event organised by Samagra Shiksha Himachal Pradesh at Portmore Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Shimla on April 7, 2026. The national-level competition was held at GITAM University on April 11 and 12, where the team earned qualification for the international event.

During the entire competition journey, Quality Coordinator Sonia Sharma from Samagra Shiksha and mentor Hemant Kumar from GBSSS Mandi guided the students.

Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma said the achievement reflects the growing capabilities of government school students in innovation, STEM education and modern technology. He added that continuous efforts are being made to connect students with robotics, coding, artificial intelligence and scientific innovation through Samagra Shiksha initiatives.

Apart from the competition, the students also visited the famous Taman Mini Indonesia Indah cultural complex in Jakarta, where they explored museums and cultural sites and gained exposure to global innovation and technology.

Special hand-holding sessions were also conducted for the students by STEMpedia experts to help them further strengthen their project and presentation skills. The entire cost of the students’ participation and international travel was borne by Samagra Shiksha Himachal Pradesh.
