Ban on campaigning activities within 100 metres of polling stations

Dharamshala, May 14: District Election Officer (Municipal Bodies) and Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa, has issued an order banning campaigning activities around polling stations in view of the municipal elections. The orders were issued under the provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, and the Himachal Pradesh Municipalities Act, 1994.
According to the orders issued by the State Election Commission, voting for the municipal body elections in Kangra district has been scheduled from 7 am to 3 pm on May 17, 2026. The counting of votes for Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats will take place at the respective headquarters immediately after the end of voting, while the counting of votes for Municipal Corporations will be held at the respective Municipal Corporation headquarters from 9 am on May 31, 2026.
Under the orders, there will be a complete ban on influencing voters, campaigning for or against any candidate, and displaying election-related posters and notices at any polling station or within 100 meters of it. These orders apply to elections for the Municipal Corporations of Dharamshala and Palampur, Municipal Councils of Kangra, Nagarota Bagwan, Nurpur, Dehra, and Nagar Panchayat Shahpur.
