High Court Stay on KNH Shifting Exposes Congress Government’s Insensitive Approach: Karn Nanda

Shimla, May 13: BJP media coordinator Karn Nanda on Tuesday termed the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s stay on the state government’s decision to shift from its present location to the IGMC campus as a major setback for the Congress government and a victory for public sentiment.

Reacting to the High Court’s intervention, Karn Nanda said the court’s observations and criticism of the government reflected the “insensitive and hasty decision-making” of the Congress-led administration, which allegedly ignored public concerns and healthcare realities before taking the decision.

He stated that BJP had opposed the proposal from the very beginning, maintaining that Kamla Nehru Hospital was not merely a building but a vital healthcare institution serving lakhs of women across Himachal Pradesh.

According to Karn Nanda, shifting the hospital would have adversely affected pregnant women, female patients and people travelling from remote areas for treatment. He said BJP consistently raised the issue in public interest and highlighted concerns regarding accessibility and healthcare infrastructure.

The BJP leader further claimed that the party carried out protests and demonstrations against the proposed shifting and also submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking intervention in the matter.

He alleged that the Congress government failed to consult health experts, local residents and women’s organisations before taking the decision and accused the administration of acting in an arrogant manner without understanding public sentiment.

Karn Nanda said BJP would continue to fight for safeguarding healthcare facilities for women and demanded that the state government completely withdraw the shifting proposal and instead focus on strengthening infrastructure and services at Kamla Nehru Hospital.
