Two Books by Deepti Saraswat ‘Pratima’ Released at Literary Event Organised by Himalaya Manch

Shimla, May 10: organised a literary programme at the historic Gaiety Theatre in Shimla on Saturday, featuring the release of two books by writer and poet Deepti Saraswat Pratima along with a poetry session.

The event was graced by Sanjeev Gandhi, who formally released the books “Antar Geet” and “Kagazi Prem.” Senior litterateur SR Harnot and noted writer and translator Meenakshi F Paul were also present on the occasion.

“Antar Geet” is an edited collection of poems written by Deepti Saraswat’s late father Som Sharma ‘Som’, while “Kagazi Prem” is her own poetry collection published by .

Speaking on the occasion, S.R. Harnot said that publishing her father’s poems in book form had long been a dream for Deepti Saraswat. He added that she has been actively contributing to poetry, fiction and literary criticism and is presently serving as a Hindi lecturer at Government Senior Secondary School Majhar. He also noted that she has already published four poetry collections and one short story collection.

In her author’s address, Deepti Saraswat emotionally reflected on her father’s literary journey and also recited some of his poems along with selections from her own work.

Chief Guest Sanjeev Gandhi congratulated the author and organisers for the successful event and emphasised the important role of writers in shaping social consciousness. He said literature not only raises voices against social issues but also guides society towards positive change. He also encouraged young writers to use their creativity and expression constructively and recited one of his own poems during the programme.

Prof. Meenakshi F. Paul spoke in detail about the book “Antar Geet,” while Dev Kanya Thakur presented her views on “Kagazi Prem.” Kalpana Gangta read out a review written by Dr. Devina Akshayvar.

The event was conducted by Rajan Tanwar. The second session featured a poetry symposium chaired by Anil Harta and Roshan Lal Jinta, where students, young writers and senior poets recited poems on diverse themes.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Inder Suryan, who thanked the guests, participants, media representatives and the staff of Gaiety Theatre for their support.
