1 min read

Shimla, May 2: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has expressed serious concern over reported TB infections among nursing students at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Nursing Institute and Hospital, Rampur–Khneri, terming the situation “unfortunate” and indicative of lapses in the health system.

Citing reports that 19 out of 90 students have been affected, he alleged inadequate response by the state government and called for immediate intervention. He also raised concerns over the management of treatment, including reports of MDR-TB cases, and questioned the overall monitoring and preventive measures at the institution.

Thakur further criticised the state government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, stating that despite central efforts to eliminate tuberculosis, the issue reflects gaps in implementation at the state level. He also referred to complaints by parents regarding facilities and food quality at the institution.

The Leader of Opposition demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter and urged the government to ensure proper medical care for affected students while taking steps to prevent further spread of infection.
