Jairam Thakur Targets Sukhu Govt Over ‘Frequent Policy Reversals’

1 min read

Mandi, April 24, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has sharply criticised the state government, alleging that it is running a “decision flip-flop administration” instead of delivering stable governance.

In a statement issued from Mandi, Thakur claimed that decisions taken by the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government are frequently reversed within hours or days, creating confusion and undermining public trust. He questioned the rationale behind such decisions and asked who is responsible for policies that “do not even last a day.”

The opposition leader alleged that several recent government decisions lacked foresight and public interest, forcing repeated rollbacks. He cited examples including policy changes related to school mergers, revisions in rental rates of government properties, extension-related decisions, entry tax adjustments, and employee regularisation orders that were later withdrawn.

Thakur also claimed that some government decisions have failed to stand legal scrutiny, particularly in matters related to local body elections. He further accused the administration of encouraging bureaucratic mismanagement and failing to act against what he termed “irrational decisions.”

Criticising a reported incident involving a dairy farmer in Mandi, Thakur alleged that action against a protester reflects an “authoritarian approach” rather than addressing farmers’ concerns. He said that instead of resolving issues, the government was attempting to suppress dissent.

The Leader of Opposition urged the government to adopt a more consistent, transparent, and people-centric approach in policymaking.
