BJP Slams Himachal Govt Over HPTDC Hotel Privatization, Alleges Policy Confusion

Shimla: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on the Himachal Pradesh Congress government over the proposed privatization of HPTDC hotels, accusing it of policy inconsistency and lack of coordination within its leadership.
Former minister Dr. Rajeev Sehjal said that contradictory statements from within the government have exposed its “confusion-driven functioning.” He pointed out that while HPTDC Chairman RS Bali has claimed no knowledge of any privatization move, there are simultaneous indications that the government is proceeding to hand over hotels to private players.
Calling it a “clear example of double standards,” Sehjal alleged that the government is attempting to sell state assets under the pretext of financial losses. “This reflects a mindset of disposing of public assets rather than strengthening them,” he remarked.
State BJP spokesperson Sandipani Bhardwaj also criticized the government, alleging that institutions are deliberately weakened before being declared loss-making and opened up for privatization. He termed the move a “well-planned strategy” to transfer state resources into select private hands.
Highlighting internal discord, Bhardwaj said that conflicting statements by leaders indicate a complete lack of coordination within the government. “When leaders themselves speak in different voices, it raises serious concerns about governance and accountability,” he added.
The BJP leaders further questioned the rationale behind investing significant funds in the construction and renovation of HPTDC hotels while simultaneously preparing to privatize them. They claimed this raises serious doubts about the government’s intent.
Alleging that the Congress government is prioritizing the sale of public assets over sustainable development, the BJP termed the move as “a model of destruction rather than progress.”
The party leaders asserted that BJP will take this issue to the public and strongly oppose any move to privatize HPTDC hotels. They warned of statewide protests if the government does not roll back its decision.
