Jairam Thakur Targets State Govt Over Economy and Governance
Shimla, March 25, 2026:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, after returning from his Delhi visit, stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Himachal Pradesh soon. He said that during his meeting with the Prime Minister, detailed discussions were held on various issues, particularly the state’s financial situation, and necessary support from the Centre was sought.
Addressing the media, Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Sukhu-led government, holding it responsible for the state’s deteriorating economic condition. He rejected allegations that the Centre has withheld funds, asserting that meaningful dialogue with the central leadership is always possible.
Taking a political dig, Thakur said that BJP leaders do not need permission from Congress to meet national leaders, while alleging that senior Congress leaders visiting Himachal often remain inaccessible to local party workers.
He further accused the state government of financial mismanagement and unnecessary expenditure, claiming that while the government cites an empty treasury for public welfare, significant funds are being spent on hosting political leaders as state guests.
Raising concerns over governance priorities, Thakur also questioned recent decisions and administrative practices, alleging misuse of public funds and lack of accountability. He demanded transparency regarding expenditure on political hospitality and urged the government to focus on public welfare and economic stability.
He concluded by stating that the coming days will reveal the outcomes of discussions held with the Prime Minister, expressing hope for positive developments for the state.
